Art and music collide when this trio come together, though often the components of Iglomat’s soundscapes are recorded separately and assembled by David Jack, the trio’s ‘technical unit’. Collaborator Scott Macdonald is, like his bandmate, a Peel Session veteran, but this fact doesn’t date the music – indeed, while photographer Sandy Carson’s influence brings a cinematic feel to much of the album, atmospheric instrumentals are a rarity. Instead, infectious beats and guitar hooks as well as guest vocals from Rachel Sermanni and Jennifer Austin (plus 7-year-old Nora Macdonald’s on ‘Elgato Elgato’) show that art rock need be far from dull.
