Herve

Ghetto Bass (Music Response)

By Andy Reilly • Feb 14th, 2009 • Category: long players

There’s a time for subtlety and there’s a time for no nonsense and this double mix-CD by Herve is easily in the latter category. Featuring some big names and some tremendously commercial beats, ‘Ghetto Bass’ does nothing to live up to the title of the album it does provide a good mix over the two cds.
Acts like The Kills, Bloc Party and Justice on CD 1 will get the more indie based kids eyebrows raised but the fun on CD 2 is a bit harder hitting with the sound having a darker, sleazier edge to it. For those who appreciate the Fabric mix collection, this mix will be a bit tame and safe for your liking but if you only like to dip your toe into the pool of dance music occasionally, this is not a bad way to do so.
If you’re looking for a pre-club warm-up or more likely, some decent tunes for a night in imitating a night out, this could be a decent addition to any generic dance collection.
