Gogobot
Glasgow King Tut's (Sunday 27th February)
When Gogobot appear onstage at King Tut’s, three bands have already been and gone. The crowd is tired, the bar running low on alcohol supply.
Then two guys and a girl emerge with some funky electro-pop music, mashing an eclectic mix of genres together and spreading them nicely across a twenty five minute set, and the crowd is awake again.
An impressive collection of songs with impeccable timing and musicianship to boot, there isn’t a dull moment onstage as this trio churn out the tunes. By the second song ‘First Class Fool’, the infectious riff has won everyone over, and we are wondering why these three have not yet been on our radio.
‘The Survey Says Dance!’ is almost so sugary sweet pop-rock it will knock your fillings out, but somehow it works. The chorus is too electrifying not to disco along to and the crowd find themselves unable to contain their hip shaking for one more second.
By far the most memorable song of the night is ‘We Are Here’, with piano pop verses and a heavy rock chorus, even the people downstairs can hear this one vibrating through the ceiling, ensuring every audience member is chanting it on the car ride home. The music is Abba gone indie rock, Queen meets the Scissor Sisters, if that is even possible. But whatever the sound, there seems to be a common theme emerging with every song – you won’t be standing still when Gogobot play.
