El Dog
Let It Snow (Lo-Five)

The oddest thing about this single – apart from the fact I’m writing the review on Boxing Day - is the first half-minute of the tune, which sounds for the world like it’s John Martyn doing the cover, rather than one of Glasgow’s top post-rock acts. Things do ‘right’ themselves quickly though and we’re into a magical world of strange time changes, crunching guitars and loud/quiet dynamics which are, frankly, not all that festive. But since the original tune – made famous by the likes of Dean Martin – is, unsurprisingly, long since deconstructed, it’s (ignoring the title) a great piece of epic alt.rock that’s not just for Christmas.
