Duffy

Warwick Avenue (A&M Records)

You can say what you want about Duffy and whether she is real or not but her producers have picked out a few cracking songs that take directly from some of the best 60s pop moments. When you add this to a voice that is capable of holding a tune or two, its no surprise that Duffy has had a number one single and album so far. A number one may not be as prestigious as it was back in the days but hey, its more than most people will achieve in their life.

Warwick Avenue’ is another extremely well crafted slice of orchestra swooning pop that wouldn’t seem out of place anytime in the last four decades. It’s a timeless time of song, the music has a simple yet ever insisting edge and lyrics that signal a break down in a relationship are always going to evoke an interest. Duffy puts her own stamp on these lyrics and the independent woman vibe comes across loud and clear.

Manufactured or not, it’d be churlish to say this is anything but a delightful track that will be lodged in your head all summer.
