Dinosaur Planet
Edinburgh GRV (Thursday August 11th)
Regular readers will recall our previous encounter with MJ Hibbett and his premonition – sorry, one-man rock musical – of the “violent evisceration” that ensues when man meets prehistoric space invader.
And they, like ourselves, would be doubly thrilled to learn of the show’s return to the capital in August – only, this time, with twice the fun (well, the doubling of the cast via Steve Hewitt’s recruitment could only add to the fun?)
And indeed, the two-man show does see a consequent increase in the entertainment factor in what’s already an engagingly silly mix of music, science, and armageddon.
The lo-fi, low-tech show is basically a collection of indie-schmindie songs, comedy accents, and hats – which facilitate a cast of (not quite) literally thousands.
The basic premise is of course, as before, how a motley crew of ordinary guys (and The General) bumble their way towards the salvation of the earth as not one but two invading forces advance, hell-bent on destruction.
So, the principle of doubling up resources leading to a twofold increase in enjoyment seems to add up. How good could the forthcoming full cast version be?
