Delphic
Counterpoint (R & S)
This inspiring trio have found themselves thrust into the gaping hole that was formerly plugged by Manchester bands effortlessly bridging the indie-dance divide. New Order and the Happy Mondays embraced electronica, incorporating beats and riffs to a wider audience and Delphic are of a similar guise, except a modernized version for the nu-rave generation.
‘Counterpoint’ is unashamed in its intention; driving synthesised rhythms dominate the track with a vocal reprise that shouldn’t fit what is happening around it, but somehow it all merges together beautifully.
A criticism may be that it is feels overly long and self-indulgent as it slips past the six minute mark, bit the promise the record shows makes it a forgivable flaw, one that should be refined as Delphic make their inevitable move into the mainstream.
