The problem with singer-songwriters is that there are a helluva lot of ‘em out there. And a lot of them have interesting life stories, and have poured their heat and soul into their work. Which means that if you don’t particularly care for it and give it the thumbs down, people look at you like you’re the sort of sick person who kicks animals.

Mr. Hertzov’s album is a case in point. The child of a Jewish dissident couple he left Moscow, aged two, growing up in the US, where he witnessed 9/11 first hand. He came to the UK, witnessed 7/7 by getting trapped on a tube, then moved to Glasgow to persue his love of music.

Thing is, I’m sure his life would make a fantastic book. But whilst this album is perfectly pleasant, not even the above paragraph can give me anything to say this is something special, something different. It’s nice enough while it’s on, and then fades to nothing before the coda.
