Commander Keen
Extended Player II (Only Pretend)
Like those hazy few moments when you awake from a slumber on a Sunday morning, the Extended Player II release from Commander Keen is beautiful but you can’t put your finger on why. Trying to explain the different elements that create the cacophony of sound and electro glitches would give the impression it was fairly chaotic but it’s a highly impressive five track release that fits cohesively.
The intro to ‘Lying In The Dark’ is almost Nick Drake esque with its keening strings and casual melody stretching out in front. There is a dream like quality spread throughout this short release which although would work well in the live arena, is definitely suited for quieter and reflective moments at home. With promise of an album on its way, the strength of quality and consistency on this release bodes well for what is to follow from Commander Keen.
