is this music? Not on Nov 21st!

Bill Drummond, once of the KLF and equally famously, burner of a million pounds, has launched a scheme seen by many as bizarre as the band’s collabration with TammyWynette. No Music Day is on 21st November and as its name suggests, aims to cancel all musical play, from radio and TV, to jingles, to whistling milkmen. [...]

Music for arts’ sake

Alan Bissettis this music? sees the world of literature and music collide at its inaugral gig at Henry’s Cellar in Edinburgh on September 7th. Ross Clark launches his debut EP, and as well as support Davie Lawson, it’s a bit of a coup as Alan Bissett reprises his recent collaboration with Y’all is Fantasy Island. The author of course collaborated with another Falkirk act, Malcolm Middleton, on the Ballads of the Book compilation.

In The City to go ahead

Tony WilsonManchester music industry In The City will go ahead this year, from October 20th - 22nd, despite the recent death of its guiding force, Tony Wilson. The theme for ITC 2007 is “It’s A Brand New Dance, But We Don’t Know Its Name”  - the opening line from David Bowie’s ‘Fashion’ - although “Always look forward, never look back…” - a phrase beloved of Wilson and partner Yvette Livesey - would seem just as appropriate.
