Burnt Island
The Moments Before (Dead Light)
Nick Drake. Leonard Cohen. Joy Division. Imagine if you can, the out-patients’ department at the clinical depression wing just when it becomes known that the Prozac delivery scheduled for this morning, did not, in fact, happen.
Burnt Island are the band playing, unusually for a NHS establishment, in the corner of the waiting room. And even if the aforementioned acts were available, they would probably be considered just a little bit too ‘bouncy’.
That’s not to say that Rodge Glass’s band are depressing. In fact, the lovely harmonies and beautifully-recorded instruments, should be a source for joy. And for those of us for a cheery disposition, the two tracks on this debut single may well inspire an uplifting wave of joy given the quality of the songwriting on offer.
For anyone in a darker place, however… well, just saying.
