‘Independent Thought?’ is a scathing broadside against Scottish nationalism from young Aberdonian songsmith Mark McCabe.
In all honesty, I’m not sure what to make of this song. It’s probably the biggest load of self-indulgent rubbish I’ve ever heard in my life, yet you’ve got to admire the sheer audacity of releasing a song this bad for public consumption.
A lot of Scottish bands seem to be influenced by folk music at the moment, and Edinburgh’s Machar Granite are no exception. Unfortunately for them, their debut ‘Lost in History’ does little to help them stand out from the pack.
