Pretty far-removed from his former band Won Mississippi, this debut solo effort from Rob Wilkinson shows that emos (small ‘e’) don’t necessarily die, they just grow up and develop musically.
We all do it of course. “Oasis copyists”. “Beatles rip-off.” “Blatantly reimagining the entire career of Sun Ra”.
Huge ambition is often the death knell for a band, as if a band don’t fall flat on their face they may vanish up their arse. (Step forward, Bono). Keeping your tongue in your cheek when you[‘re a band with big ideas is therefore perhaps the answer. And the Scaramangas – I think – are [...]
