Bring You Down
(Universal / Island)
Although there are a lot of expectations being placed on the Attic Lights, it is not as if people are expecting anything new or cutting edge. This is just as well because they manage to deliver on every other front. The light melodic pop that is ‘Bring You Down’ is yet another mix of California sunshine and Glasgow rain that has been good to a number of bands in the past few decades.
It lacks the killer touch to make it one of the songs of the summer but repeated listens do show it having a bit of depth. It chimes and lifts nicely and has a rhythm you can bop along to, it’ll do just fine!
The only slight gripes is the fact that they have far better songs in their arsenal than this and when the breakdown section comes in, the accent comes through enough to leave you wondering if it is Mull Historical Society. No offence to Colin but that time has been and gone and Scottish guitar pop is in a stronger pair of hands these days.
