Agnes Kain
Keep Walking Or I'll Kill You (Half A Cow)
Any album that starts off with the easily recognisable sounds of an Omnichord can’t be that bad, ditto for any album that is released on Australia’s ‘Half A Cow’ label (run by an ex-Lemonhead if you’re interested). If you’ve heard Blake Babies, Atlantic era Lemonheads, Smudge or Godstar you’ll be instantly at home in the folky/poppy world of Agnes Kain (a duo featuring no-one of that name btw), hand claps, strummed acoustic guitars, sweet boy/girl vocals, tapped tambourines, perky uptempo melodies….they’re all here.
Australians seem to have a knack for this kind of sunny acoustic pop, maybe it’s the fantastic weather, maybe there’s something in the distance from the rest of the World that makes them so prone to having a more positive, less cynical outlook on life. Whatever it is, it makes a rainy, cold winter afternoon in the UK more bearable.
