A Torn Mind

(self-released)
By Euan Wallace • Mar 1st, 2010 • Category: short players

An ambitious recording running longer than most albums, the debut EP from this Livingston-based progressive rock band is heavily influenced by such prog luminaries as Dream Theater and Genesis.

There’s a strong emphasis on melody and rhythm throughout and the musicianship is suitably virtuosic, guitars have a swirling dreamlike quality and brief saxophone solos steer away from genre conventions

There might not be much here that will be alien to devotees but ‘Barriers’ is still a competent and often enjoyable debut.
