A Camp

Colonia (Reveal)

A Camp will never be considered more than the bit on the side of Nina Persson but they are more like the original sound of The Cardigans than The Cardigans are now. With the main act turning up the guitars and heading down a rock road, A Camp provides Persson with an outlet for her more melodious and whimsical material and to be honest, its all the much better for it. The Cardigans stopped being of interest or relevance a good few years ago but ‘Colonia’ manages to grab the attention in the manner that a Swedish blonde should always be able to.

It’s a really easy listening album, full of the same quirky observations that fans of the singer will be fully acquainted with but there are a number of influences peppering the record. Sixties girl groups come to the fore at the start of ‘Here Are Many Wild Animals’ whereas ‘Chinatown’ manages to evoke the era when the Stones put down the Brown Sugar and went all Americana.

It’s a comfortable and relaxing album, it’s not astounding or pushing any boundaries but its good to have the vocals of Nina Persson back and in such a good mood.
